An online campaign was organized to ask President Obama about legalizing marijuana on the WH Web Site. This commentary shows the top questions that were asked to the President about pot. Majority of the questions asked in this campaign were about how the legalization of pot will help the economy and make millions of tax money. No question was really based on a medical point of view or really worth the effort to answer. Questions were based on how marijuana is less harmful then cigarettes and alcohol so why not legalize it. The President in return to the questions just laughed and said no. This had upset many people but as the author wrote it is not the Presidents fault since the campaign was a flop to start with. No President in his right mind would think about legalizing pot fully. If questions and concerns in the medical field for marijuana were brought up maybe this could have led to something, but making pot legal 100% is political suicide for anyone. The author’s intended audience is the people who are upset with Obama for rejecting the legalization of marijuana. I agree with him that it should not be the President at fault but the campaign that was not well organized with the right questions to ask. It is good to think about the economy at this certain point, but thinking of only the economy is not enough. People need to think about the other consequences that can occur with legalizing marijuana and not only about making a few bucks right now.
Yes, I agree that people need to think about the other consequences that can occur with legalizing marijuana and not only about making a few bucks. For one, what about all the poor people that have been put in prison for minor marijuana offenses. Hemp has been used in all countries for many things, rope, linens, beauty products, in old days in the fire place, etc. It is a plant that one can take a seed and put in the ground or in pot to be grown for many and various uses.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that the first car was built and made to run on ethanol. A hemp based ethanol. This is the reason that it was made illegal. Not because of addiction or bad medical side affects but simply because of greedy oil men. Men that made and currently earn their money off oil, did not and do not want their money and earnings being cut into by an ethanol based fuel. Even though there is no evidence of any one ever being addicted to pot, the oil men of the world don't care if poor people are arrested for something that should never have been made illegal, because it would hurt their families financially. Any other propaganda that the government or oil men have promoted as marijuana being bad is because of oil mens greed. Not because the drug is bad for you. I agree the government should not legalize it and tax it. It should be legalized free for farmers to farm to boost our economy and make clothes, provide fuel, and shelter for people. And the minor offenders should be turned out of prison with no record. The common people have suffered enough for the greed of the oil men and their families that have no regard and make excuses for their own sins of propagandizing marijuana in a negative light in total disregard for human life. Like their wealth makes them righteous.
